Is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire predictable? Yes. Is the plot slightly worn thin from over-use? Maybe. Does it go against all odds and make a hilarious, smash hit? Yes.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a comedy-thriller sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Directed by Gil Kenan, Frozen Empire is significantly better than Afterlife and much scarier. It’s a non-stop, headfirst thrill ride that barrels through the plot with many twists and turns. While this movie lacks a meaningful plot or emotional depth, it keeps you laughing and on the edge of your seat.

The plot continues a year following the events of Afterlife, where Finn Wolfhard and his family are well-settled and continue to protect New York from troublesome ghouls and ghosts. When a customer comes in to sell them a family heirloom, little do they know an ice ghost named Garraka lives inside of it. When the item, a round sphere, is opened, the whole world begins to freeze over. After that, it’s a race against time at breakneck speed to defeat Garraka and save not only New York, but the whole universe.

Screenguardian’s Rating

Overall: 13-14 years old

Action: 3.8 out of 5

Many scary ghosts which are much creepier than in the previous movie, people die fighting, bloody scenes. The main ghost, Garraka, is very creepy-looking. Look up a picture before letting your kids watch.

Sexual Content: 2.5 out of 5

Jokes about sex, particularly in one scene. The word sex is used, but though nothing actually happens.

Language: 2.0 out of 5

Use of the A word, D word, H word, B word. Less language than in the previous movie.

Overall, Frozen Empire is a scary, action-packed sequel that is more inappropriate than its predecessor. A good movie movie for the teens, but skip bringing the kids.

Until next time!
