Dune: Part One Christian Review

Since Dune: Part Two has been such a box-office hit, I recently watched Part One to catch up. I had heard good things about this movie, so I went in with high expectations. I was curious how it would be adapted for this generation since it’s based on a book written in the 60’s. I was amazed at how immersive this Sci-Fi adventure movie was.

The movie follows Paul Atriedes, (Timothée Chalamet) the duke’s son. Paul and his dad have recently been placed as duke of the whole planet of Arrakis. This planet is the only source of a coveted spice, melange. Humans aren’t the only life on this planet though, Arrakis is also home to giant sand worms, who try to protect the spice.

Since I read the book Dune before I watched the movie, I was worried about the movie possibly being overcomplicated, but director Denis Villeneuve makes sure this isn’t a problem. While politics has a big part, we also get to see awe-inspiring scenes of giant sandworms.

An incredibly well-crafted adaptation that’s faithful to the source material while also breathing new life into it, and an immersive, epic cinematic journey that will absolutely leave you aching for more.

Landolrian’s Ratings

Age Rating: 12 and Up

Action: 3.7 out of 5

Lots of stabbing, gunfights, people falling into the sandworm’s mouth, sword fights, and a bloody hand is shown a few times, and characters are shot, stabbed, sliced, and die.

Sexual Content: None

Language: 2.25 out of 5

Infrequent use of the S word, A word, D word, and God’s name in vain.
